Tinctures are herbal preparations that use something beyond water as a solvent. Using a solvent like alcohol, vinegar, or glycerin, you can extract a greater spectrum of the whole plant and preserve the medicine much longer than an infusion or a decoction. My tincture is made With 2 simple ingredients Organic Elderberry & 100 proof vodka. Alcohol is especially an excellent solvent that extracts a wide range of plant properties and allows for easy absorption of healing compounds into the bloodstream.
Using a standard sized droppers bottle, adult dosages are typically 30 to 60 drops in a little water, taken three times a day.
- STORAGE: Your tincture will stay most potent if stored in a cool, dark cabinet. Room temperature will be fine, you just don't want your temperature to fluctuate too much.
USES: Because of Elderberries effects on the body, they are used medicinally for colds, fevers, respiratory ailments, arthritis, blood cleansing, sore throats, hoarseness, laryngitis & it's high in Vitamin C so it may be taken regularly for immune health.
Tinctures are made without honey or water. And since they are made with vodka as the solvent, they last much longer than elderberry syrup. Elderberry Tinctures are said to last at least 3 years but I think if they are stored in glass bottles and not exposed to light or heat, they may last even longer than that!
